So I was using an original Bose 901 Series 1 EQ. 901s sound like 901s, especially the early ones from the 1960s and 70s. But basically the 901 Series 1 and 2 have such a strong scharteristic sound that they are not much changed by all this fooling around. Again, all of this made no difference other than the weaker amp could not get as loud and sounded a bit sweeter. Drove them with 250 watts and even combined 4 speakers to get a 4 Ohm load to a 12 watt class a tube amp. Then I tried swapping out a few of the Bose drivers for others with the same specs. Bought a bunch of parts and built two Bose 901 speakers from Series 1 and 2 parts which are pretty much the same. So I thought I would see where it all began. Other than that they sound accurate and detailed. They are a bit full and warm in the upper bass. And I do not hear any of the mess others complain about like weak bass, distorted highs and muddled mids. Anyway, the Bose 901 Series 6 are OK by me. And I have several high end custom designed speakers. And I have well over $100,000 in over 250 sets of speakers. But, honestly, are among the most enjoyable speakers I have. But, in fact, they compared well with my Design Acoustics D-12, Theil CS3.5 and other classic, well designed yet quirky loudspeakers. Anyway, I was surprised how much I liked them having heard a lot of trash. about a year back I bought a set of Bose 901 Series 6.
